14 business partners have joined together in an EU project to create "Water Living Lab" - an interdisciplinary knowledge and innovation environment that provides the opportunity to develop, test and demonstrate water technology solutions that support a sustainable and resource-conscious supply.
For a number of years, Aarhus Vand has worked to create a culture of collaborative innovation in the form of "Living labs". We have now teamed up with a wide range of partners from companies, utilities and educational institutions to establish the "Aarhus Vand Living Lab", where sustainable and effective solutions within drinking water can be developed.
In the Living Lab format, there is a special focus on collaboration and a nuanced understanding of challenges across disciplines and experiences. Aarhus Vand Living Lab therefore aims to create trusting partnerships that connect the latest research from universities, the best technologies from companies and Aarhus Vand's operational expertise.
A unique platform for testing and demonstration has been created in Aarhus Vand's Operations Area South. The area consists of 17,000 households, 415 km of pipes supplied from two waterworks and thus provides the opportunity for realistic full-scale tests.
One of the goals has been to create a universal test for water quality sensors to improve monitoring of water quality. Knowledge has been collected with regard to pressure surges and control for future control systems. At the same time, there has been a great focus on testing and demonstration of digital solutions from the collaboration partners. Here, the focus has been on data sharing, the creation of digital twin scenarios, as well as digital service and maintenance.
The ambition for the solutions that are developed in the Aarhus Vand Living Lab is that they should improve the day-to-day operation of Danish Vand supplies by being included directly in services and products. In the development processes, there is also a strong focus on the fact that the solutions must be able to be scaled and adapted to foreign markets with similar challenges, in order to increase the opportunities for export. The established test and demonstration facilities can also be used in connection with global exposure of Danish water technology and the competences of the Danish water industry.

In addition to the creative project partners, Aarhus Vand Living Lab is open to all companies that work with water technologies for the distribution network and knowledge institutions that want project collaboration and a test facility in that connection.
