Wastewater Living Lab

Marselisborg Drone

The Wastewater Living Lab is a knowledge and innovation environment that enables full-scale testing and demonstration of technologies in our wastewater system and at our treatment plant.

Aarhus Vand wishes to support the development of technologies and solutions for the entire infrastructure of wastewater treatment. That is why we have established a Living Lab that makes it possible to experiment and evaluate in a full scale real environment. New, innovative solutions that solve challenges in the wastewater network, are both beneficial for the water industry but also for Aarhus Vand’s own operations.

Aarhus Vand experts will contribute

Demonstration of a solution or technology can take place at current treatment plants: Åby, Egå, Marselisborg and Viby wastewater treatment plant. The drainage system is also part of the Living Lab environment. Ahead of a demonstration, there is of course a process where we together clarify the possibilities and arrange a process. Our own experts must also be included in the work.

When the new Aarhus ReWater is completed, facilities for Living Lab projects will be an integral part, so more space and room for development has been planned.

Everything from treatment processes to resource extraction can be tested

We are open towards all kinds of prototypes or new ideas that could be demonstrated. It can be new treatment processes, extraction of resources from the sludge such as high-value products like proteins or improvements to the drainage system which also contributes to solving challenges with high groundwater levels.

Process flows and data are made available

At the wastewater treatment plants one gets access to the process flows and is able to test in different types of wastewater that one wants. We also provide data for drainage systems and wastewater treatment plants to the extent that makes sense.
