Exchanging knowledge and employees is enabled in a cooperation with a Portuguese utility

Portugal

In our efforts to improve our treatment processes and become climate resilient a continued cooperation with Águas do Tejo Atlântico is full of perspective. We will be exchanging both knowledge but also employees in order to gain real impact that will affect our businesses.

Collaboration with foreign utilities is a road to development. In March 2025, we therefore extended our cooperation agreement with the Portuguese utility Águas do Tejo Atlântico for another 3 years with the participation of the Danish ambassador in Portugal.

Exchange of employees

One way of knowledge transfer will be the exchange of employees. Thus, during the summer an employee from Portugal will visit us in Denmark to learn more on asset management and how we have transferred our organization to becoming more agile. Through direct experiences new input on culture and organizational principles will be exchanged.

For the next three years we will cooperate on following important subjects:

· Carbon neutrality and energy savings on WWTPs

· Converting sludge into valuable resources

· Wastewater reuse

· Leadership and management principles

Águas do Tejo Atlântico is interesting to us, among other things because they have great experience with a compact energy-saving process plant from which valuable resources more easily can be extracted. We wish to implement this technology in our new resource plant – Aarhus ReWater.

Exchange of knowledge

On the other hand, our energy production, efforts to ensure climate adaptation of the city, and minimization of water usage and water loss is interesting to them.

I experienced extremely good and direct dialogues during our stay in Portugal. When the entire group of people gather from operations to laboratory, project and top management knowledge spread fast. That is exactly what our partnership is all about.
- Says Claus Homann, chief strategy manager, Aarhus Vand.
