Managing the sewage system in the city of Tema in Ghana previously relied on a plan on physical paper. Through the cooperation with Aarhus Vand a digitalized plan in the shape of an app has been developed enabling quick updates on data.

Aarhus Vand supplies drinking water of the best quality merely by filtering and aerating the water on its way to the citizens’ taps. However, we can only do this because we think ahead and always take the groundwater into consideration.

Increasing rainfall means that pipe capacity is too small in many places, with excess water – a hazardous mixture of wastewater and rainwater – flowing into lakes, streams or sea untreated. The excess water also causes flooding of cellars, roads and green areas. In other words, we lack space in our sewer system, and Aarhus Vand is doing something about this by seeing surface water as a valuable resource.

At Aarhus Vand we are very engaged in business creation and how to improve areas within the field of water supply. Therefore, we created the company DRYP together with MONTEM.

Water utilities in Denmark are struggling with rising problems of hydrogen sulphide in the sewers. To solve these problems, Aarhus Vand has partnered up with Envidan and made a sustainable filter that uses mussel shells to break down the hydrogen sulphide without chemicals.

At Aarhus Vand, one of our primary focuses is on developing new and innovative solutions to improve the sustainability and efficiency of the water sector.

The company Zediment delivers drone-based scannings of the capacity of reservoirs at wastewater treatment plants and in stormwater basins. This solution is the first of its kind and can save the water utility huge operational costs.

You might not think about it when you open your tap and have a glass of water. How did our water get so clean? Operations assistant, Anders Sørensen has the answer. He makes sure that the citizens of Aarhus Municipality have clean tap water.

Total energy renovation of the treatment plant at Egaa, just outside Aarhus, means that Aarhus Vand is setting new standards for developing treatment plants from energy guzzlers into energy producers.

Up to 10,000 households’ washing machines and toilets in the suburb Nye – near the city of Aarhus - use rainwater instead of drinking water. This reduces water consumption by 40 percent.

At Aaby and Marselisborg Wastewater Treatment Plants we have extracted phosphorus from the wastewater. Over a decade this has been sold as a valuable fertiliser under the name PhosphorCare.
